In the thick of summer and Chapter 2 layouts are complete! They really vary in quality but I'm calling them 'done enough' haha. Comic artists will use layouts for all sorts of different purposes. For me, they're my real scripting phase. I hate scripting out panel by panel in a word document. It's so aggravating and hard to picture how the scene will sit on the page. So when I do sit down to write, I'll just outline as tight as is reasonable, and then figure out the hard stuff on the page. Here's the first 19 pages in layouts! For the rest of the class scene, I decided to write out the dialogue in procreate. It's important to how the scene flows between the teacher and Saoirse, and also with this much dialogue I wanted to make sure there'll be room for word balloons! This chapter's gonna focus a lot of Saoirse's in class frustrations, so Dad's not gonna get as much screen time. But I did want to make sure people get to see more of how solid their relationship is. Based on the deadline planner I built last time, I'm ahead of schedule! And with only a little bit of summer left (and 2 other comic projects on the go), I'll take some time off before starting up Pencils! |
